Still alive

Wow, it’s been 5 years since the last post.

I’ve got somewhat unusual topic to cover and I don’t have another place to put it, so I thought I’d try to reanimate this blog. That will be another post. Here is a bit of rambling about the blog revival.

Looking back

At first, I got more busy. I still had somewhat coherent story to bring here about other things I’ve been doing, but I also wanted to redo the blog template. Then more things happened, and all I had the capacity for is basic survival. Made some discoveries about myself along the way - made a lot of sense in retrospect, but I’m not in the right mindset to reflect on it here, and the blog wasn’t intended for it anyway.

Things are slowly normalizing now, I hope.

Reanimating the blog

Theme I’ve made back in 2016 - is in need for a rework. And I thought to change the engine (static site generator to be exact) as well. But I don’t have the time and energy for it now. Have to live with what I have.

I thought (with some supporting evidence) that my theme isn’t very adaptive, not well suited for mobile screens. But looking at it now, seems like smartphone screens just got bigger and better over these years, so not a big deal - can live with that.

Just doing some small adjustments for now. I’m also removing some old posts - those that I don’t feel good about.

Hugo static site generator seems to have a lot of updates over these 5 years. But I’ve no idea what it is like nowadays. I can jump only so many versions before I run into compatibility issues. I’ve had pretty long notes in the past about various issues with Hugo. At this point I don’t care anymore. When (and if) I have enough time and motivation to redo the template - I’ll be learning it anew or jump to https://astro.build/ or https://hexo.io/.

Using some pre-made theme would’ve been so much easier if I knew it would do what I need, no more, no less. But I don’t believe such things exist. There are so many things I’m redoing myself because “the world is blind to see a better solution”. It is a blessing and a curse.

What to expect looking forward

No consistency.

I should be publishing one post out of left field soon. I also need to sync this website with my personal projects after 2020.

This blog was initially created to help me focusing on getting any personal projects done. With current life pressure, I’m not sure it will work that way, but worth a try.
